“Quade Scores Steel Block Clash Victory Saturday at Potomac”
“Wyatt Hanson First to Repeat in Street Stocks”
By Doug Watson
Budds Creek MD, (5/11/24)- Mechanicsville Maryland’s Derick Quade continued his early season heroics with a win and last Saturday nights 30 lap Steel Block Clash series event at Potomac Speedway. Quade’s second Potomac limited late model win of the season, worth $3000, came steering his trusty Longhorn No.74 and would be his 35th career division feature win at the fabled southern Maryland oval.
Quade drew the pole for the start of the event and immediately shot into the race lead as the field went into turn one. Kyle Lear ran second for five laps until Kenny Moreland secured the spot on lap six and went after Quade. Late in the event lead duo ran side-by-side with Moreland making contact with Cody Lear bringing out the caution flag on lap 22. Under the yellow flag period Moreland stopped in the third turn to get his car checked by officials, however the stoppage proved to be Moreland’s undoing as he would eventually be sent to the rear for the infraction. When the race was restarted Quade continued his rapid pace and would take the win over eventual runner-up Kyle Lear. “That was a bad deal for Kenny I would’ve much rather raced him for the win.” Quade stated in victory Lane. “We had another good car tonight, but we’re still getting used to these American Racer tires and to start on the front row always helps.” Dale Hollidge held tough for third with Sam Archer and Jonathan Raley completing the top five. Heats went to Quade, Moreland and Lear.
Defending track champion Wyatt Hanson became the first repeat winner of the season with his win in the 15 Lap street stock feature. Hanson’s 7th career win came over Mason Hanson, Jason Penn, Stevie Gingery and Matt Tarbox.
In other Saturday action Mikey Latham collected his second win of the season and career 28th in the 15 lap Hobby stock feature, Travis Dye rolled to his second consecutive win in the 15 lap Ucar main, with class rookie Kelly Crouse also claiming his second win of the season and the nightcap 15 lap strictly stock contest.
