“Moreland Banks $5K in Larry Hills Memorial Saturday at Potomac”

“Faith Lacey Scores Career First U-Car Main”

By Doug Watson

Budds Creek, MD (7/22/23)- Waldorf Maryland’s Kenny Moreland drove to his first win of the season in last Saturday nights 30-lap “Larry Hills Memorial” at Potomac Speedway ending a winless drought that dated back to the 2020 season. The win for Moreland, worth a hefty $5015 pay day, came aboard his iconic Rocket no.24 and would be his 10th career track score.
Moreland drew the pole for the feature and would make the most of his good fortune as he would eventually pace all 30 circuits in quite dominating fashion. Kenny’s win would be significant in the fact that he utilized the teams 525 Crate power plant to score a coveted win over eventual runner-up Trevor Collins. “I think having the crate motor in the car has made me concentrate more on being a driver and getting our car right.” Moreland stated in victory lane. “I knew we would struggle a bit with this motor at the bigger tracks, but we would be ok at smaller tracks, and we really hit on something here tonight.” Jamie Lathroum took third with Willie Milliken and Roy Deese Jr completing the top five.
Faith Lacey made it a clean sweep of the nights U-Car action as she took a win in her qualifying event, and then would lead all 15 feature laps to score her first career Potomac feature win. “It feels great to finally get my first win.” The soft spoken 19 year old said. “I have to thank my mom and dad because without them I wouldn’t be here right now.” Richard Inscoe, Hank Stonestreet, 11th starting Mackenzie Smith and Keith Brown trailed at the finish.
In other Saturday night action, defending track champion PJ Hatcher took his 3rd win of the season and career 33rd in the 20-lap Street Stock feature, Eric Hanson romped to his first win of 2023 in the 15-lap Hobby Stock main with Johnny Hardesty claiming his first win of the season in the 15-lap Strictly Stock contest.
