“Late Race Heroics Lands Quade in Potomac Victory Lane”

“Pilkerton Snaps Drought With RUSH Crate Score”

By Doug Watson

Budds Creek, MD (8/11/23)- Derick Quade took full advantage of a late race caution flag to score his second win of the season in Friday nights 20-lap Limited Late Model feature at Potomac Speedway. The win for Quade, aboard his iconic Longhorn no.74, would be his 32nd career division feature victory.
Kenny Moreland took the lead at the drop of the green flag, and appeared to be well on his way to his first win of the season as he led effortlessly through a majority of the event. Derick Quade had been running second to Moreland the entire time, but was unable to get close enough to make a bid for the lead until a caution slowed the field on lap17. On the ensuing restart Moreland took off but was unable to shake Quade this time and as the duo took the white flag, Quade slid to the inside of Moreland in turn two to take the race lead and eventual win. “If it wasn’t for that caution, I never would’ve caught Kenny.” Derick stated in victory lane. “When I got to him I tried to move him up just a little bit on the last lap and we were able to get the job done.” David Williams rallied late for second, Moreland dropped to third with Cody Lear and Kyle Lear rounding out the top five. Heat race wins went to Quade and Wayne Bryant.
Jeremy Pilkerton ended a season of frustration with his first feature win of the season in the 20-lap RUSH Late Model feature. Pilkerton out dragged current point leader Ed Pope Jr. Into the first turn at the drop of the green flag and would eventually pace all 20 circuits. “We’ve had a good car here all season but we just haven’t had any luck.” Jeremy offered post race. “We’ve been able to win some races at other tracks this season, but it always feels good to get one here at home.” Pope held tough for second with Jarrett Edwards, Megan Mann and Scooter Tippett trailing at the finish.
In stock car action, current point leader, Wyatt Hanson drove to his 3rd win of the season in the 20-lap Street Stock feature, Mikey Latham tallied his 3rd victory of 2023 in the 15-lap Hobby Stock main, Jayden Hatcher rolled to his second straight, and 4th of the season in the 15-lap Strictly Stock event with Cody Bottorf claiming his 2nd win of the year in the 15-lap Roadster contest.
