Danny Garrett Memorial Race Night
Kyle Lee of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania made his first ever appearance at Potomac Speedway a memorable one, piloting the Bruce Kane #15K racing entry to victory lane in the 4th edition of the Danny Garrett Memorial, in the process, pocketing a cool $3,699 for his efforts in the 39-lap event for Limited Late Models Saturday. Starting 5th, Lee grabbed the lead from Kyle Lear on the second restart of the night, eventually surviving several restarts and challenges in the caution marred event. “This track is different than any track we have ever run” stated Lee in victory Lane. “The Dirt is a little different down here, and we were a little nervous with regards to all the cautions, hoping we were good on fuel”. Lee’s winning performance came on the heels of a third place run the week before at Hagerstown in his first season with team owner Bruce Kane. Opening night winner Ed Pope III challenged Lee on several restarts, eventually settling for second, with Jeff King, Scooter Tippett, and DJ Garrett rounding out the top 5. Lee also picked up the evenings Fast Time Award and also earned additional bonus money for being the driver hauling from the longest distance, courtesy of Quade Performance and the Garrett Family. Heats for the 20 cars on hand went to Jeremy Pilkerton, Kyle Lear, and Jonathan Raley.
In the 15- lapper for the Street Stocks, PJ Hatcher celebrated his birthday in fine fashion, taking his first win of the season, staving off Kyle Randall, Bobby Meixsell, Wyatt Hanson, and Deuce Wright. Heats went to Tyler Alton and Greg Morgan.
Opening night Hobby Stock winner Justin Hatcher earned his second straight victory, winning a hard-fought dual with early leader Trent Clemens, taking the 15-lap event. Following the lead duo were Richie Gibson, Rusty Alton, and James Rainey Jr.
In the 15-lap event for the Strictly Stocks, 2024 champion Nabil Guffey took advantage of race leader John Hardesty’s misfortunes, then staved off 2025 champ Greg Mattingly for his first win of the season. Mattingly spun on the final lap, giving Mason Foster his best finish of the season for second, with Will Mayhew earning a career best third, followed by Shawn Howsare, and Sarah Culver.
In the 15- lapper for U Cars, Adam Suda, in just his second career race, earned his first ever win, holding off Thomas Windsor, Nikolas Weber, Travis Dye, and Ben Pirner.
Potomac will return to action this Saturday, as the Crate Late Models make their first appearance of the season, along with the Roadster Division, with the Streets, Hobby's, and Strictly Stocks joining the 5-card program.
